Get to Know Christine and Charlene

Updated: Nov 25, 2018

If you have had the pleasure of meeting Christine and Charlene, you will already know all about their crazy friendship: the running, screaming and constant sh*t-talking. You would also know how much they truly care for and support each other. This duo met at Queen’s University in their first year, but to truly understand the story of their friendship I will take you way back to the glorious city of Mississauga, Ontario. The pair met for the first time at St. Raymond Elementary School in grade 6. They knew of each other, but never talked. They shared some fond memories of each other:

Christine:“She was annoying and ugly and still is”

Charlene:“She was too short for me. I don’t talk to anyone below my eye level”

It may appear from the image above that they at the very least interacted to create this groundbreaking photograph, but you would be mistaken.

Christine and Charlene (together):“We did not take this picture, it just happened that our two groups of friends were taking pictures separately and someone accidentally snapped this picture of us standing beside each other.”

The two split up in middle school with Christine attending St. Joseph Secondary and Charlene attending Holy Name, but little did they know their story was just beginning. In Grade 12, contact was made via the popular social media platform, Instagram.

Christine:“I added her because she was such a Sweeetttt Thannggg”

During a frosh week residence tour, the dynamic duo reconnected in person. Both living in Ban Righ residence, Christine on the second floor and Charlene on the third, they locked eyes from across the dingy, carpet lined hallway. With remnants of resentment leftover from grade 6, they pretended like they didn’t know each other. However, they soon discovered that there would be no escape. At a pre that evening, unbeknownst to them, they would be thrown together again. Finally, they were forced to acknowledge each other. The interaction began in a rocky way, but before the end of the evening they were laughing together. The rest is history.

When asked what they enjoyed doing together they yelled (and I mean yelled!) “FOOD!!!”.

From sharing a pizza to sharing a new restaurant spot in Kingston or Toronto, both ladies love to cook and love to eat.

Christine: “We also bond over pissing people off.

From stomping around and screaming on the top floor of their student house to trolling social media, nothing brings them more joy.

One memorable moment for the pair was the afternoon of second year homecoming that they spent asleep on the front lawn of a Collingwood house.

Charlene: “We must have been asleep on that lawn for 25 minutes before our other friends bothered to come and get us.”

What advice do these lovely ladies have for surviving four years of friendship?”

Christine: “Even if you hate someone, you should take a chance on them. You never know, you might end up finding your sister.”

Charlene: “Yeah, you’ll find the spicy eggroll to your curry.”
