Get to Know Miggs and Annie

Updated: Nov 25, 2018

These two Commerce cuties became friends in true Commerce style: a conference, QSELF to be exact. Both had applied to go the conference on a whim, submitting their applications right at the deadline. Being in the first semester of first year both were nervous and eager to meet new people. They got to know each other the first day of the conference.

Annie: “Miggs was super friendly and we connected immediately! We spent the whole conference together.”

Miggs: “Pretty much inseparable love.”

The friendship continued after the conference, reaching what the pair remembers as a major milestone, later that month when Miggs invited Annie over for pre-drinks in her dorm room before a Halloween party.

Annie: “That was how I knew I was in. I lived on West, so being asked to come main was a pretty big deal.”

Miggs remembers being embarrassed about her messy room:

Miggs: “I had stuff everywhere. I remember hoping that she’d still be friends with me after seeing the place.”

The pair has never had any major issues, although they did hit one slight rough patch. Annie (pronounced a-knee) can be difficult name to grasp right from the start and Miggs pronounced her name wrong for close to six months at the beginning of their friendship.

Annie: “I didn’t correct her because I didn’t want to make her feel badly.”

It was not until a friend explained to her the mistake that it came to Miggs’s attention:

MIggs: “I told my mom about Annie (with the name pronounced correctly) and she asked me if I had made a new friend. I was like ‘Nope same friend, just learned to pronounce her name properly.’ My mom was not impressed.”

The pair consider themselves each other’s yes men, which has led to many interesting adventures together. One of their most notable memories together was trip they took to Spain during exchange last semester. While everyone else was hitting up the club scene in Ibiza, the pair took a slightly different route towards delicious lunches and cooking classes.

Annie: “We bring out the grandma in each other.”

One of their most notable experiences was an octopus rave (yes, you read right, octopus rave) they were invited to at one of the cooking classes they attended.

Miggs: “It turned out to be and silent, electronic octopus day rave, disco and art gallery. We ate octopus and danced.”

This fit in exactly with the pairs’ favorite activities which largely include eating and drinking wine, baking and cooking; essentially all things that involve food. They also both love taking trips together up to Miggs’ cottage, spending countless summer afternoons, a little tipsy, boating, adventuring and hanging out. In fact, Annie has basically become part of the family:

Miggs: “My parents are obsessed with Annie! I tell my mom that we’ve hung out and she’ll be like ‘I miss that girl so much"."

Miggs’ mom also checks in on Annie to make sure she’s doing alright as well as interrogating her boyfriend when he came up to the cottage stating that she “wanted to make sure that the boy was right for [her] Annie”.

After four years of wonderful friendship, the pair has some wise words of wisdom for readers:

Annie: “Do activities that interest you cause you never know who you’re going to meet.”

Miggs: “Don’t be afraid to reach out if you think someone’s cool.”
