Welcome to Human Crossing!

Human Crossing was founded by Mae-Lin DeLange (Mae), Julia Baldaro and Alana Johnson. They are all fourth year Commerce students currently studying at the Smith School of Business at Queen's University.

How the Founders Met

Alana and Mae met in their first year of university, when they lived in adjoining residences and both got up for 5 am rowing practices. They became close friends after realizing that they studied well together. Mae met Julia in a first year accounting class, where they evidently hit it off as they ended up living together in second year. That is also how Julia and Alana became friends, as they would see each other in class and of course, whenever Alana came to the house with Mae.

The three realized they all shared the same passions for food, fun and good times with friends.

What Inspired Human Crossing

The three co-founded Human Crossing to share authentic stories of human connection. To them, this blog highlights the importance of valuing the relationships you have in your life and serves as a reminder to tell people that you love them. Whether romantic or platonic, love has a universality to it that they believe everyone can relate to.

In a world where many rom-com and comedy movies portray couples and friends as having dramatic, fast-paced relationships, they wished to showcase a more genuine side of love.

In their opinion, love doesn’t have to be shown in grand, sweeping gestures (not that these aren’t also appreciated). You show your love for someone in the little things, the ‘good morning’ texts, cooking a homemade meal for someone, or simply enjoying the time spent with each other doing nothing in particular. When you find someone you love (friend-love or significant other-love), even running the simplest errand together can become a grand adventure.

As you go through life, you meet so many people and each one of them will add something unique to your experience. It is important to cherish all of the special relationships in your life, whether they are romantic, platonic, or something in between.

Join them in sharing the beauty that is human connection!
