Founder Meet-Cute: Alana X Julia

Updated: Nov 22, 2018

Alana and Julia connected for the first time during their second-year Human Resources class. Being in the same program and having many mutual friends, they knew of each other but never really talked. Julia was an incredibly warm person and easy to get close to. After their first few classes together, Julia would save Alana a seat beside her (Alana being chronically late). They bonded, sharing bad puns (mostly Julia), class notes and food.

It also helped that Julia lived with Mae (the other co-founder of this blog). As their house was already Alana’s second home, they saw each other a lot outside of class as well.

Following that initial semester, the pair decided to take more classes together, as well as play intramural basketball. Many dinners, drinks and late-night study sessions were to follow. It is very rare a day goes by without them seeing each other or, at the very least, talking on the phone.

During second semester, third-year, the friendship was tested when they went on exchange to different continents, oceans apart. Julia left to study in Rome, Italy, while Alana set off for Montevideo, Uruguay. It immediately became clear that the distance and a six-hour time-difference could not keep them apart. They talked on the phone at least three times a week, FaceTiming on occasion to show each other their new friends and living spaces.

The pair was re-united in September when Julia picked Alana up from the airport as she arrived to begin a final year of university. Julia greeted Alana with a handmade poster and balloons and jumped into her arms.

They are looking forward to a final year of shenanigans together at university and for the life-time of mischief to follow.
